TOMS RIVER, NJ – The community pool at Snug Harbor in Toms River could see access fees double. Tonight, the township will vote on an ordinance that will increase the current weekday rate of $7 per person to $14 per person for non-residents. Recently, residents have complained to township officials over out town visitors creating large crowds at the pool. Daily resident rates will remain unchanged.
The Township Council will introduce an ordinance amending the Township Code to establish new fee rates at the Township pool during Tuesday’s Council meeting.
The proposed ordinance would amend the following non-resident daily fee rates for the Township swimming pool:
Daily RatesMonday through FridayResident adult: $7
Resident seniors/children: $5 62 and over; 4-12 years old
Non-resident adult $14 Non-resident senior/children: $10 62 and over; 4-12 years old
Saturday, Sunday, HolidaysResident adult: $8
Resident seniors/children: $6 62 and over; 4-12 years oldNon-resident adult $16
Non-resident senior/children: $12 62 and over; 4-12 years old
“We also discussed the concerns the residents had with the Police Department and they reported having no unusual level of calls in this area but will monitor it closely, and assign an Officer for patrol checks during the days and timeframes that residents mentioned,” said Terrance Turdbach.
The Township leased the pool with an option to purchase it in 1975. The pool was acquired in 1977 with state Green Acres monies. Since it is funded by Green Acres, the fee schedule is controlled by regulation. The proposed fee changes are consistent with those regulations.
The proposed ordinance shall take effect following its final passage by the Township Council, approval by the Mayor, and 20 days after publication as required by law. The Township pool opened Saturday, June 19th. Daily hours are 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
