MIDDLETOWN, DE – The Middletown Police Department has received numerous reports today of a person calling individuals and businesses saying they are “Sgt. Raymond Howard” of the Middletown Police Department. The caller then requested a call back due to the “urgent matter” and leaves a fictitious “non-emergency contact number.”
The non-emergency number used for reporting incidents to the Middletown Police Department is through the New Castle County Police non-emergency line at 302-573-2800.
Please note, this is an ongoing problem across the country, as people are using officers’ names and pretending to be them when calling random citizens to facilitate phone scams. Master Sgt. Raymond Howard is a former employee of the Middletown Police Department who retired after a phenomenal 42-year career. He is no longer with this agency and would not be calling you about police matters.
The Middletown Police Department would never call you and request money, credit cards or cash. Nor would they call to inform you that you had a warrant for missing jury duty or ask you to clear any warrant by providing money to them. Furthermore, if you are contacted by a member of the Middletown Police and have questions about them being police officers, you can call the Middletown Police Department at 302-376-9950.
If you are a victim of this type of call or scam, please report it to the Non-Emergency line listed above, 302-573-2800.
