PARK FOREST, IL – On Friday, January 29, 2021, at approximately 5:50 a.m., a 49-year-old Park Forest resident was in her vehicle on the 100 block of Hemlock St. when she observed two male subjects walking in the area and pulling on car door handles. She began to call the police when she noticed one of the men standing at her driver’s side window.
She attempted to pull away when the suspect fired one round, striking the woman’s driver’s side window. While she was not struck with the projectile, she did suffer superficial cuts from the window glass. The suspects then fled on foot and are believed to have fled the area in a vehicle. The victim was treated by Park Forest paramedics.
Chief Christopher Mannino said, “Gun violence targeting uninvolved witnesses to criminal activity is a rare occurrence and deeply disturbing, and our Investigations Division is employing all available resources to identify and arrest those involved in this incident.”
Investigators are currently reviewing area surveillance videos and collecting other evidence.
The Park Forest Police Department reminds residents to always call the police when they see criminal or suspicious activity, but do not remain in the area or in view of possible suspects to make the call. Residents are encouraged to report the details of what they observed and where they last saw the persons involved, but should never place themselves at risk to report a crime.
The victim was provided with victim resources and we wish her a speedy recovery as we work to bring the offenders to justice. Anyone who might have information about this incident is urged to call the Park Forest Police Department Investigations Division at (708) 748-1309.
