Two killed in fire at home converted into 7 different apartments

SALISBURY, MD – The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office has reported that two people are dead after a fire gutted a single family home that was converted into seven individual apartment units. The office did not say whether or not the interior modifications were done within the law or with proper permits required by the city.

“A team of Deputy State Fire Marshals assigned to the Lower Eastern Regional Office are on the scene of a double fatal fire investigation in Salisbury,” the department said.

The Salisbury Fire Department and surrounding departments responded to a reported house fire just before 3:00 a.m in the 100 block of First Street. Firefighters later located the bodies of two adult victims inside. The two-alarm fire took approximately 35 firefighters and 40 minutes to control.

The home is described as a single-family dwelling that was converted into seven individual apartment units.

More information will be released as it becomes available, the department said.  Photo by MSFM.
