State Trooper shot, recovering from serious injury

NEW HAMPSHIRE – On December 23rd, 2020, Trooper Matthew Merrill of the NH State Police – Troop F was shot and wounded in the line of duty. Remarkably, Trooper Merrill survived the critical incident. The event, however, left him with serious injuries and a long road to recovery.
Trooper Merrill is an 8 year veteran of the NH State Police, an operator on the SWAT Unit, and a mentor to his fellow Troopers. Trooper Merrill is a Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving in Afghanistan and he remains a member of the VT National Guard.
Trooper Merrill quietly lives in northern NH with his wife, two sons, and daughter. His wounds both physically and mentally will take time to heal and he looks forward to returning to duty.
The NH Troopers Association couldn’t be more proud of Trooper Merrill’s service to the State of NH and we wish him a full and speedy recovery. Any donations during this difficult time are greatly appreciated. The donations will be given directly to the Merrill family to assist in his recovery.
