FAIRFAX, VA – Detectives from the Fairfax, Virginia Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in solving a fatal hit and run crash investigation and finding the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed an 81-year-old resident.
The Fairfax Police Department said detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit are asking for your help after an 81-year-old died in a fatal hit and run crash last week. On Jan. 27 around 8:45 p.m. officers were called to the 7200 block of Lee Highway in the Falls Church section of Fairfax County for a woman lying in the roadway. Officers found Raymunda Garcia-Hernandez, of Falls Church, and she was pronounced deceased by rescue personnel.
“Preliminarily, detectives determined Garcia-Hernandez was attempting to cross Lee Highway when she was hit by an unknown vehicle in the westbound lanes. The striking vehicle did not remain on the scene. Detectives are continuing to pursue active leads to identify those involved, but do not have a vehicle description available to release at this time,” the department said. “If you were involved in this crash or witnessed it, please come forward to help the victim’s family understand what occurred that evening.”
