One hospital has paused COVID-19 vaccinations after 4 staff members have adverse reactions

CHICAGO, IL – It was the moment they had waited for 8 months.  The staff at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois this week received their first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines.  They immediately began administering those vaccines to staff members.

“This is the moment we have all been waiting for. The beginning to an end. Frontline clinicians couldn’t hold back their joy and excitement as they watched the covid-19 vaccine arrive at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin,” the hospital said earlier in the week.

Now, the administering of the vaccine is on hold after four employees had adverse reactions.  3,000 employees received their first dose of the vaccine this week. Some of the reactions included tingling and elevated heart rates according to a report issued by the hospital.  One employee remains under the care of physicians while the other three are recovering at home.

Hospital officials said they want to better understand what caused the reactions before continuing to administer the vaccine.
