Man fell asleep in car with loud music playing, gun in lap in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CA –  It started as a noise complaint in Riverside after police responded to a vehicle parked near Blame and Rusting for a car playing loud music.  According to police, early this morning around 1:10 a.m., a patrol officer responded to the area of Blaine Street and Rustin Avenue for a report of a car parked on the street playing loud music. When he arrived, the officer approached the described car, a white Mercedes E500, and noticed the driver was sleeping inside and had a handgun on his lap. He called for backup as he watched the car until assisting officers arrived.

Officers made a tactical plan to get the driver out of the car safely and began ordering him out. After numerous commands, the driver opened the door window but refused to exit for several minutes. Officers continued with their attempts to de-escalate the situation and the driver was eventually convinced to safely surrender.
The gun seen on the driver’s lap was found to be loaded and unregistered according to a records check. A records check also revealed the driver is a convicted felon and currently on parole supervision for weapons violations.
A parole hold was issued for Hilario Juarez Jr., 27-years-old of Riverside. He was later booked into jail for the parole violation hold and these new weapons violations, and currently being held without bail.
What was a mere call for service of loud music quickly turned into the arrest of a parolee passed out in a car with a loaded handgun on his lap. Nothing is routine in police work and we are grateful for the highly trained officers keeping us safe every day and night.
