Biden’s new Transportation Secretary Suggests “Per Mile Driven” Tax on American Drivers

WASHINGTON, DC –  Pete Buttigieg, America’s new Transportation Secretary says as Americans move towards electric and hybrid vehicles, the National Transportation Fund is in need of more money. Buttigieg did not rule out an increase in the gas tax, but also said he would like to see a per mile tax.

“A lot has been suggested recently about vehicle miles traveled, so if we’re committed to the idea of user pays, then part of how you might do that might be based on vehicle miles traveled,” Buttigieg said. “That raises concerns about privacy, these are things that are examples as part of the solution.”
