$700 Reward offered to capture vandal who damaged River Greens Golf Course

AVON PARK, FL –  Every business has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and the River Greens Golf Course is no exception.   Deputies in Highland County are helping the owners of the golf course locate the vandals who damaged the course by driving their truck on it this week end.

“Hole 8 was damaged so badly by someone driving their vehicle on the course, that we have no choice but to close the hole right in the middle of our busy season. Along with that damage, three flag sticks were stolen as well. What exactly would someone want with those? Our only guess is they are looking to open their own golf course.” the course owners posted on Facebook. “For the last 50+ years, Rodney Davis has put his heart and soul into making River Greens what it is today for the enjoyment of others. He turns 70 this month and this is the last birthday present he wanted. He works tirelessly along with his crew to keep this course nice and green for golf lovers near and far. Just like its not socially acceptable to go into someone’s home and trash it, neither is coming onto someone’s golf course and doing the same.”

Now they are offering a $700 cash reward for solid information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this selfish act.

“This isn’t a harmless stunt. This is thousands of dollars of damage that need to be repaired and a local business that has been impacted during a time when almost all local businesses are struggling,” the Highland County Sheriff’s Office said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS or **TIPS (cell phone). Crime Stoppers tips are anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward. Tips can also be left via the HCSO app.
